Instalando o VMWare tools no CentOS 6.

A instalação foi testada em ambientes VMWARE 5 com um CentOS 6.2 minimal 64bits.

  1. Selecione “Install/Upgrade VMware Tools” no menu “VM
    Aguarde até que a media seja montada.

2. Monte o CD-ROM.

[root@centos62 ~]# mkdit /mnt/cdrom
[root@centos62 ~]# mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom

3. Copie o arquivo tar.gz do CD-ROM para a pasta temporária e extraia os arquivos.

[root@centos62 ~]# cp /mnt/cdrom/VMwareTools*.tar.gz /tmp/
[root@centos62 ~]# cd /tmp
[root@centos62 ~]# chmod +x VMwareTools*.tar.gz
[root@centos62 ~]# tar xzf VMwareTools*.tar.gz

4. Atualize o kernel.

[root@centos62 ~]# yum update kernel

Reinicie!

5. Instale os pacotes necessários e aplique o patch descrito.

[root@centos62 ~]# yum install kernel-headers kernel-devel gcc gcc-c++

[root@centos62 ~]# cd /tmp/vmware-tools-distrib/lib/modules/source

[root@centos62 ~]# tar xf vmxnet.tar

[root@centos62 ~]# cp vmxnet-only/vmxnet.c vmxnet-only/vmxnet.c.orig

[root@centos62 ~]# wget http://www.thoughtpolice.co.uk/vmware/howto/patch2-vmxnet.c.patch

[root@centos62 ~]# yum install patch

[root@centos62 ~]# patch -u vmxnet-only/vmxnet.c < patch2-vmxnet.c.patch

patching file vmxnet-only/vmxnet.c

Reversed (or previously applied) patch detected! Assume -R? [n] y

6. Instalação no modo padrão:

[root@centos62 source]# cd /tmp/vmware-tools-distrib/

[root@centos62 vmware-tools-distrib]# ./vmware-install.pl

The configuration of VMware Tools 8.6.5 build-621624 for Linux for this running

kernel completed successfully.

You must restart your X session before any mouse or graphics changes take

effect.

You can now run VMware Tools by invoking “/usr/bin/vmware-toolbox-cmd” from the

command line or by invoking “/usr/bin/vmware-toolbox” from the command line

during an X server session.

To enable advanced X features (e.g., guest resolution fit, drag and drop, and

file and text copy/paste), you will need to do one (or more) of the following:

1. Manually start /usr/bin/vmware-user

2. Log out and log back into your desktop session; and,

3. Restart your X session.

No eject (or equivilant) command could be located.

Eject Failed: If possible manually eject the Tools installer from the guest

cdrom mounted at /mnt/cdrom before canceling tools install on the host.
